Correlation between Retainers and Speech?

hi i m wearing retainers and it seems to me that my speech is somehow affected by wearing retainers, i was wondering if this is permanent or is there anything i can do abt it? cos nowadays when i talk to people i have to repeat to them wat i jus said compared to before i wore retainers

Yes, a retainer will affect you speech. I used to make my daughter take out her retainer when she talked to me. I couldn't understand a word she was saying! Her friends didn't mind at all when she had a retainer. My orthodontist told me I'll just need to wear a retainer at night when my braces come off. Good luck!

its not permanent, ive had a retianer b4 i got braces cuz i have some sort of cleft pallette thing and it effected my speech too but its not permanent, promise! =)
i "ACCENDENTALY" broke my retainer though. hee hee hee. so they put me stright into braceses. the retainers are so not fun.
my friend couldnt say s's lol.
The reason your retainer is affecting your speach is because your tounge cannot come into full contact with your pallet anymore. You will eventually get used to talking with the retainer and your speach will clear.
You get used to it. I still wear mine and i don't think i sound that much different.
retainer=lisp
if u keep wearing it and practicing, ull learn to talk normal again
you aren't just used to talking with them on. it will take a while before you can speak normally.
Your mouth will become adjusted to the new retainer. You will be able to speak well again. It is very similar to getting dentures. People become accustomed to them. It just takes time.
Yes it is normal but it will go away. To speed up the process try reading books out loud to yourself so your tongue gets used to them.
