What's a fool-proof method of overcoming fear of having your teeth cleaned, soon?

Face your fear, it isnt as bad as you are imagining! As long as you have a compassionate dental hygienist, she or he should make your experience as comfortable as possible. Just let them know that you are scared. There are a lot of people that are fearful, we deal with it all the time. Usually after the appointment the patient tells me it wasnt nearly as bad as they thought it would be. I told them it wouldnt be but no one will believe us until AFTER!
If it is a really bad fear, you can be prescribed medication that will help calm you, but you may need someone to take you to and from your appointment. Most importantly let your dental professionals know about your fear. WE really DO care and want to make you comfortable! If they dont seem to care, go somewhere else!!
Good Luck, you will be fine!!

Smoke a big blunt beforehand.
Find a dentist you feel comfortable with. Have someone go with you and sit with you. My husband comes with me because I hate dentists.
think about what it would be like not to have teeth.
I don't know any way, it always freaks me out too :(
Valium or Lorazipem one half hour before appointment.
Be more afraid of having your teeth rot right out of your head.
The very thought of losing my teeth to teeth decay and gum disease makes me anxious to go to the dentist to have my teeth cleaned.
Watch some Austin Powers movies and concentrate on his smile.
think in something nice , while dentist work , pinching ur thigh once u feel "slight" pain !
The best way to overcome any fear is to face it head on. We usually fear what we don't know, and imagine it far worse than it is, because we don't have the knowledge by which to realize our fears are unjustified. Therefore, ask your dentist to explain to you exactly what he will be doing, step by step, and the degree of pain it might cause, if any.

It is not a painful process to have your teeth cleaned. However it does aggrevate the gums some, which is slightly painful, and thus there may be a bit of gum tenderness afterwards for a day or two, but the results are worth it.
what does it for me is knowing and fearing that if i don't take good of my teeth i'll lose them all!!
