I am experiencing severe pain caused by TMJ. My only relief is Hydrocone but I cannot find it. Help?

My discs are dislodged between my jaw bones. I had an extremely painful exray at one of the top hospitals in the country where they inserted metal tubes between my jaw bones and exrayed them to make sue that the discs were in fact dislocated. I and I am unable to control the pain without surgery which I am not ready for. I am unable to find anything that will take away the paiin temperorarily - it occurs mainly when a storm is coming or rain or other changes in weather. I do not need it all the time - just when the weather changes. I also have an underbite which makes it even worse. Can someone help me? Hot and cold compresses do nothing. And I have also tried deep jaw messages - they are very temporary. Help.

I'd definitely see a doctor about this. If he or she thinks you need hydrocodone, then they'll write you a prescription.

See a doctor. It could be something else.
Hydrocodine is also known as Vicotin, an addictive Rx painkiller. Try to find ways to manage the pain without it! It's in the codiene family = narcotic, addictive.

Can you see a specialist about your problem? Surely someone out there can help you.
Go have the surgery. Ready or not, sounds like you need it.
It would be better for you to see a doctor for your pain
the vicodine is only temperary and when the medicine
runs out you will still be in pain,or see a doctor for the medication
I think you mean hydrocodone, a cocaine derivitive and very popular and effective pain medicine obtainable by prescription only. Ask the surgeon who would be doing the cutting about the pain. Now don't tell me you haven'[t tried aspirin.
Hydrocodone is a narcotic and can only be prescribed by a Doctor. If your Doctor feels you need it, they will prescribe it for you. Sad thing is there are so many drug abusers this day and age that Doctors are limited to how much and how often they can prescribe certain drugs. Therefore we the innocent have to suffer. Surgery even though you may be afraid, if it will help, you should do it. I'd personally rather suffer a little extra pain now instead of continuing to suffer all the time otherwise. I have had 17 surgeries in 38 years. Modern medicine and procedures are great. Find a creditable doctor and stop suffering. Good Luck, take care and may God bless and be with you always.
A lot of doctors and insurance companies dont look at TMJ as a classified medical condition. The truth is that it is a true medical condition and it is a problem with a joint. Therefore, treating TMJ can be tricky and having insurance cover any real treatment is even trickier. My husband worked for the top oral surgeon in the country for a year and we have learned the ins and outs with treatment. The doctor specializes in treating and educating TMJ. He is the top of what he does and has classes for other dentists and students. Please check out the website his office has. I do know the office works with many types of insurance companies, even those who dont cover TMJ treatment and has gotten them to cover treatment with his knowledge and expertise. Unfortunately, your TMJ will not just go away. Treating it with pain meds is not the answer for long term. I suffer from TMJ myself, not to the extent you do, but I do understand the pain that it causes. Surgery is not always the answer to treat TMJ, but it is an option. There are other treatments to correct stages of TMJ without surgery. The website I was talking about is http://www.tmjsurgery.com/ please consider it. There is not just surgery info on the site, but lots of helpful information to read up on to give you an insight on your condition. He is the only doctor Id suggest to anyone for true treatment. I know he is located in Florida, and I dont know where you are but he sees patients from all over the country and around the world. Good luck to you.
