How does a tooth extraction work?
I went to my orthodontist yesterday to change the rubberbands on my braces, an since I got braces, my first orthodontist said I MIGHT need a tooth extraction by the end of the treatment. Since then i got a new orthodontist, and he says that my teeth are fine. He said that the only reason to pull teeth out now is for cosmetic reasons. And the worse thing about this is that my mom kept isisting that I get the extraction to the point that I started to cry when he said that he was going to pull the braces off those teeth to prepare for the extraction. My mom hasn't even asked me about it. She even said that the orthodontist just didn't want to give the service that I needed. It makes me feel really bad to think that my mo doesn't like my face. I know she's going to ignore me when I tell her I don't want the extraction, so I was just wondering if someone could help by telling me how it works. I would really appreciate it. I'm really scared, so knowing the procedure might calm me down a some

Hun pulling or ectracing a tooth is as common as having braces or a filling done these days. They will firstly numb your mouth around the area of the bad tooth, then they simply pull it out, it doesn't hurt but you will feel a little discomfort when the numb feeling goes away. It's really nothing to be afraid of, I have to admit that after having braces and 2 teeth pulled, like you for cosmetic purposes I'd get a tooth out any day, the braces procedure was far worse. So if you went through that dal you'll have no probs at all having an extraction done.
Good Luck!
You are made insensitive by large injections of pain killing drugs. Then a pliars is used to work the tooth out of its socket and it is cut off its roots with a scalpel and pulled out of your mouth. The bloody hole left behind is filled with gauze to slow down the excessive bleeding. The whole thing is a snap.
a dentist is just like ur bodys @ school or work & they will say anything to make money, don't trust them.
pliers, vice-grips and a screwdriver.
Tooth extraction is supposed to be done BEFORE the braces are put on, so that there is space for the teeth to be pushed backwards.
If you already have your braces on, then it is absolute nonsense to perform a tooth extraction during/after the treatment.
Extractions are NOT only for cosmetic reasons. There are many reasons to have an extraction. My kids just had about 6 teeth pulled between them because there was no space for their adult teeth to come in.
Usually what they will do is either put you to sleep or numb your gums to the point of not being able to feel anything. Then they will usually cut around the tooth, then use a tool to pull it out. It doesnt ever hurt, it just feels odd. Just a bit of pressure and pulling but you shouldnt feel any pain at all. There will probably be a lot of bleeding afterwards too. I've had 2 teeth pulled and while it isnt a pleasant experience, I wouldnt be freaking out and scared if I had to have it done again.
Hope that helps!
They numb you up and yank out your tooth No big deal
I had a tooth extraction some months back. Its not that scary as it seems to be. The orthodontist/dentist first gives local anasthesia (I hope the spelling is right) and that part of the jaw goes really numb, you don't feel anything. He then works on your tooth using various orthodontic tools and pulls out the tooth with a plier like thing. You dont feel no pain just a little uneasy feeling thats it. But you have to be careful after the extraction, not to eat any hard stuff, only soft food and probably something cold.
And in about 2-3 days you can start eating your normal food. Its not such a big deal, believe me.
Under general (put you to sleep) or local (a lot of Novocaine) anesthesia, they pull the tooth out using what amounts to be a pair of pliers.
After the procedure, you might bleed quite a bit (at least I did). You shouldn't smoke or drink anything with a straw because that may cause the bone to be exposed (dry socket).
It healed up pretty much after a couple of days, and completely within a week.
As an aside, you might want to tell your orthodontist that you DO NOT want the extraction.
the dentist gives you gas to knock you out then he fiddles with your bum hole
a dentist puts anesthesia before the extraction so that you won't feel anything while your tooth is being extracted.. you don't need to worry.. =)
I your case you will have a so called "simple extraction".
Simple extractions are performed on teeth that are visible in the mouth, usually under local anaesthetic, and require only the use of instruments to elevate and/or grasp the visible portion of the tooth. Typically the tooth is lifted using an elevator, and subsequently using dental forceps, rocked back and forth until the periodontal ligament has been sufficiently broken and the supporting alveolar bone has been adequately widened to make the tooth loose enough to remove.
The post extraction period normally goes by without any complications. The only thing that will be a bit unpleasent after the extraction it the time that will go by until the anaesthetic will wear off.
Don't be scared, there's nothing to it. You will be numb so you wont feel any pain. If you are not numb enough, simply raise your hand and the doctor will stop and give you more anesthetic. You will feel pressure and hear a crackling noise. Bring your ipod if you think the noise will bother you. They will give you pain medication for after the anesthesia wears off but many people don't need it especially on the teeth removed for orthodontic purposes.
When teeth need to be extracted for orthodontic purposes it does not mean that the orthodontist is lazy. It means that you don't have enough room on the arch for the number of teeth you have.
Don't you think you're being a little melodramatic about your mom not liking your face? I'm sure that she just wants it to be perfect if you're going to go through all of this hassle. And don't forget that she has invested thousands of dollars in your smile.
I promise you, it's not as bad as you are trying to make it. You'll be happy in the long run.
They will inject something in your gum and you won't feel a thing. Don't worry about the blood; you can't see it and they'll wipe it off. 20 minutes or so, you are ready to go home.
The most painful part is the injection and the jerking off of the teeth. But it's not much. I've had two teeth removed for orthodontia. But I can't say if my face looks better after it. It looks pretty much the same.
The pain is not much and goes away pretty quickly too. You won't feel anything in a day or two. I've had a fracture and that really hurt for much longer than the tooth extraction.
