Im going to my orthadontist and getting spacers?
Answers:
Its true that they only take a few minutes for them to be put in. Most people say that spacers are the worst part of the orthodontic treatment. I just got my spacers taken out last week and I only experienced slight discomfort, but thats not the case with everybody. You should take something like Advil or Motrin before hand. Spacers feel like you have ribs or something in your teeth and you have to keep reminding yourself not to dig your tongue back there or you could dislodge the spacer. I wish you the best of luck.
Getting them doesn't hurt. You will be a little sore for a few days afterwards.
Yeah, they hurt, but it's more like an ache than sharp pain. You'll prolly lose your appetite. Just eat something soft and cold if it makes you feel better, and take some pain meds. It's been a while since I've had them, but I don't think they hurt after the first day or two.
Depends upon how close your teeth are already. The reason they use spacers is to make enough space for both teeth on the sides where the spacer is placed to have full tooth wrap bands go around them. Most commonly, they are used between molars. I had them myself when I was a teenager, and thought they are uncomfortable when they put them in (have you even gotten a popcorn kernel stuck between your teeth? It feels like that, only thicker), they seem to spread your teeth quickly. I usually only had to have them for 1 - 2 months before my teeth where spread far enough.
If they come out, tell your dr ASAP. The gap will close without the spacer, and you'd have to repeat the whole process again! Good luck with them! =)
