20mg tablet form of doxycycline hyclate is used in dentistry. It is also called Periostat. Periostat is used in the treatments for adult periodontitis by reducing the activity of the enzymes that destroy tooth and gum tissue. It is only available by prescription and should be taken in conjunction with SRP (scaling and root planing).
