Drilling require before filling, will drilling cause the tooth to crack?

Answers:
if the decay in the tooth is of small to moderate amounts, the drilling will simply access the decayed area and allow the dentist to remove the decay. The filling will go in the prepared area and all shall be well.

However, if the decay is large enough, the presence of hte filling may compromise the overall integrity of the tooth, thereby leaving it at increased risk of fracture.

Generally, if the dentist feels this is the case, s/he will recommend a crown rather than a filling. However, the filling is usually more conservative and always less costly. So go ahead and get the filling and just be aware that there's a possibility that this might result in a fracture down the road. maybe/ maybe not. ask your doc how large it is and what the prognosis for how long the filling ought to last. A good filling should give you 10-20 years, however, this number is modified by how large it is, how well it's done, how well you take care of your teeth, and if you grind your teeth or have any other habits, like drinking 3 liters of Mountain Dew a day!

good luck!
not unless you already had a crack in the tooth, which anyone older than 30 has.
