Dry socket?

I had 4 wisdom teeth pulled out on Friday.Would I know if had dry socket by now? Or could it just set in all at once with no warning signs? I am taking antibiotics and I am still very sore and not able to eat much.I dont smoke and I havent drank through a straw b/c my surgeon said this could cause a dry socket...I am really worried I am getting a infection or something b/c I had one abscessed wisdom tooth (lower right side) and worried the dentist didnt get all the infection or something that side is very sore and feels kind of hollow .really freaking out

Hi..
Well first off nobody is going to feel great after 4 extractions Especially of wisdom teeth, so take it easy.

I think if you had a dry socket you'd know, the pain is very severe.

The fact that you're on antibiotics should prevent any complications re abscess/infection.

A dry socket isn't infection, although of course they can co-exist, dry socket is a lack of or insufficient blood clot in the socket meaning the socket, and possibly some bone is exposed to air.

A dry socket also presents quite a bad taste and odour.. is that present?

It can present earache.. is that present?

Its more common in lower teeth..also towards the back ,moreso with molars than premolar's,canine or incisor and most common with wisdom teeth.

Yes smoking and suction are best avoided as they can lead to blood clot displacement..and dry socket.

Oral contraceptives can also cause dry socket, indeed dry socket is more of a problem for females also because of their menstrual cycle.

Its advisable for a female to have an extraction in the LAST week of her menstrual cycle to actually Halve the likelihood of dry socket.

If you are suffering this, return to your dentist to have the area cleaned and possibly packed.

Dry sockets usually appear 2 days or so after extraction and can last a week, however treatment is easy..thats the good news!

Be careful with the tender area and continue to gently rinse ( and spit) tepid salt water, several times a day.

Take care

Yes. If you inhale and you feel a shooting pain like someone just set your nerves on fire ... then you have a dry socket. General discomfort, swelling, and soreness for up to 10 days is normal.
rinse your mouth out hot salt water the hotter the better if you get dry socket you will know it its very painful you will need perks and more antibiotics good luck
