My mom said she couldn't sleep, eat ,talk very well...so Its very very very very painful
First of all dentist gives you local anesthesia, so that you dont feel the real pain. Then he asks you to calm down. He take a dental drill and digs deep down in affected tooth, as if he is in search of oil. When he have done then he puts dental cement in the cavity he has created. This drilling is done so as to take away the nerves in you tooth. Later on if doctor finds it fit then plants a tooth cap to prevent your tooth from any injury. In India it cost nearly 2000 Rs. And 1$ = 45 Rs, for one tooth. So quite expensive but not much.
And yes it is painful.
Once you lapse into unconsciousness from the excruciating pain then the visions begin.Jews report seeing Mel Gibson smiling at them, Catholics report seeing the Virgin Mary descending with a cup of Blessed Chicken Soup in her right hand and a Vicodin in the other, others report seeing Elvis wave to them as he leaves
the building."
they let u sleep... then they section your tooth.. then they get the pulp out... understand?
Just had one this week so here's how it went
1. He numbed the area with a needle injection into my gums.
2. He used a drill to dredge a hole through the top of my tooth and into the area with the nerve.
3. He used a little hook to scrape it out (the nerve).
4. He then cleansed the inside of the rotten tooth by burning away the dark rotten tooth, and drilling it away.
5. He cleansed the inside of the tooth with a clorox/water solution.
6. He filled the tooth up with rubber cement and sent me home.
Honestly, it doesnt hurt. You have to remember that now a days we've advanced in technology so much that root canals aren't what they used to be in the 80's and beyond. Anesthia is better, tools are better; and I went in expecting some serious hurt.never got it. Take care.
Some people are so dramatic. Teleflurry got it right. Sounds as if that dentist/endodontist explained everything as they were doing it.
I just had my third root canal. No pain, 3 roots cleaned out and filled up, no sensitivity on any of these three teeth. the hardest part is keeping your mouth open so danged long -- cannot close it at all. The nerve is removed, so there should be no pain or sensitivity again.
