I am an adult with braces...can Soy nuts hurt my braces even though they are not really nuts?

I know this is a silly question, but I am so paranoid about damaging my braces- its so different when youre the one paying for them! I eat popcorn and stuff and havent had a problem yet, but have always avoided nuts. Thanks for your help.
