Any remedies or preventive measures for motion sickness?

In Singapore, where traffic lights less than 1km apart, i do get motion sickness when travelling in public transport. the sudden stops/jerks will make me dizzy. overtime, i'll be feeling nauseaus.
Anyone knows of a way to rectify this issue?..

I have found a very good homeopathic remedy for motion sickness. It is called (amazingly) Motion Sickness #45. It is made by Newton Homeopathics (www.newtonlabs.net).
I usually get motion sickness on airplanes and boats. I used this on a cruise to Alaska two years ago and had no problems from the time I left home until I got back. It made the trip very enjoyable. As am matter of fact, once the other members of my family saw how well I was doing, they started using it too. We all had a much better time for it.
There is another product called Sea-Bands (www.sea-bands.com) that applies pressure to acupressure point P6, a point about three finger widths above the wrist crease on the inside of the forearm. This helps , but, it takes a little while to be effective.
As mentioned in the other answers, Ginger works well. I would hesitate to take Dramamine myself, because it makes me drowsy.

motion bands, work great! should be able to get them at a pharmacy over the counter.
Try playing with some little ball (size of a billiards ball) in your hand while travelling.
Try some fresh Ginger.
Have some ginger. You can have it in tablet form, drink or just chew on a small piece of ginger root.
Take dried ginger in a capsule. Or even chew a piece of fresh ginger as you ride.
