You should talk to your doctor about weaning off.usually its done slowly.
That is not a high dose at all. I took 300 mg and weaned off just fine. You have to do it slowly and with doctors advice and help.It may be uncomfortable but that will only last a while.
Be careful - you feel good now because the effexor is working. Drop it too much or too fast and you will be back where you started. Been there done that.
Talk to your doctor. If your doctor does not listen - talk to another
That stuff is hard to get off of because of all the side effects. My boyfriend was on 150 mg of that stuff and he took his last pill the other day. He started taking a full pill every other day, and then after about two weeks he split his pills in half and took half doses everyother day. He is still feeling the jolts in his head and he is still a bit irritated. It does that to you. just make sure you read the side effects because he had panic attacks from not taking his meds properly. so since you have a low dose, you could probably split your pill and take half doses every day for a bit then do it every other day then every two days until you run out.
When I weaned myself off, I twisted the capsule open and took about half of the granules. Don't chew them, just swallow them. I took about half each day for two weeks. Then, every other day. Then every third day. That med is so powerful and hard to wean off. Sure, a doc would never tell you to do it this way. I did it that way because when I stopped, with my doctor's blessing, I got dizzy, lightheaded and suffered from headaches.
Make sure your doc knows that you want to stop, though!
Good luck
cut each pill in half if possible, then take 1/2 the daily dosage, then after a few weeks, get your doctor to reduce your prescription dosage and cut those in half, etc until you are on less than 5 mg, and then stop taking it. It will take weeks, but you won't suffer the side effects, and your dependency will be reduced to almost nothing. I did it with Paxil at 20 mg, and was off the drug totally in 4 months
