Is fish oil good for kidney disease? My doctor has me taking 12 capsules per day.?

Fish oil is a good source of omege-3 essential fatty acids. The fatty acids that are necessary for health and that cannot be made by the body are called essential fatty acids which have a desirable effect on many disorders. They improve skin, hair, reduce blood pressure, lower cholesteral, etc. Every living cell in the body needs EFA. But, I cannot find that it is specifically good for kidney disease.

The supplements I can find for kidney disease are as follows:

1. Cranberry - contains a substance that acidify the urine, destroy bacteria buildup, and promote a healthy bladder.

2. Acidophilus - 3 times daily on an empty stomach. Especially important if taking antibiotics.

3. Vit. B-6- 50mg 3 times a day plus choline 50mg daily, and inositol 100mg a day.

4. Vit. C- 2,000 to 4,000 mg daily- acidifies the urine, boosts immune function, and aids healing.

5. Dandelion root extract- aids in excretion of the kidney's waste products and is very beneficial for nephritis.

You might want to check out the book "Prescrition for Nutritional Healing", second edition, by James F. Balch, M.D. I use this book like my bible for mine and my family's health.

Yes fish oil is good for that, just make sure that you use a purified fish oil from a lab. They are more expensive but worth the cost. Most OTC fish oils are bough wholesale and stuffed in jelly pills. Just type purified fish oil in yahoo to find one. The Carlson and Eskimo brands are the best. Good luck.
Fish oil no, it is not safe because of the pollution factor. Try flax-seed oil and add glyconutrients to your daily regimen.
