is it true that you get bruises after taking too many advil/tylenol/etc?
Answers:
Yes, it can happen.
You can with advil or other drugs containing Ibuprofen. Bruising from Tylenol can happen, but only if you took enough tylenol to damage your liver.
There are a number of medications that cause easy bruising, including:
Warfarin or Coumadin - The risk of bleeding and thromboembolism (blood clots) in people who use anticoagulants increases with age. Anticoagulant medications such as Coumadin (warfarin) thin the blood and help prevent clots from forming or growing larger, thereby cutting the risk of heart attack and the type of stroke caused by artery blockages. Anticoagulant treatment in elderly patients presents a major clinical dilemma. While the risk of blood clots and the subsequent need for proper anticoagulant drug therapy increases sharply with age, the bleeding and bruising risk rises as well.
Aspirin
Clopidogrel (Plavix)
NSAIDs such as ibuprofen
Corticosteroids such as cortisol can thin the skin and make it more likely to bruise
There is a possibility that SSRIs such as Prozac may cause easy bruising.
You are unlikely to. You could get bruises from taking too much aspirin, as it can thin your blood. You bump yourself, blood can't clot as well, you get a bruise. Don't try it.
Uh, no. Maybe if you take the whole bottle. Aspirin could cause a slight increase in bruising
yes, not tylenol so much, but ibuprophen and aspirin can cause small veins to burst causing bruises, they are mild blood thinners. that's why they give suspected heart patients baby aspirin in the ambulance if they are concious.
I've never heard that - but anything is possible.
Taking too many Tylenol can destroy your liver - that's a definite.
Advil over the short-term can be taken safely - unless you are allergic to aspirin - then you would need to ask a doctor.
the only ones that will increase bruising are the aspirin derivetives. They thin your blood making it easier for it to flow through narrow arteries, such as those with atherosclerosis. Tylenol will not do this, but if you take too much it will mess up your liver.
